Province supporting North Bay film studio

Post-production facility at Canadore College will help filmmakers complete projects in the North.
Film-Program
Canadore College is introducing a new post-production film program to add to its film and TV programming, starting in 2017.

The province is providing $374,045 to Canadore College’s new post-production film facility. The federal government earlier contributed $499,995 to the project.

“We are extremely grateful for the confidence that the governments of Canada and Ontario have placed in Canadore College, and for the investments they are making in our Northern Ontario economy,” Canadore president George Burton said in a release.

“Our post-production centre will provide access to unparalleled education to train film professionals, will attract more industry to our region and will provide an opportunity for our youth to stay and be employed in the North.”

The 5,588-square-foot facility was announced last June, and will include state-of-the-art editing, audio-mixing, and colour-grading technology. It’s expected to create 26 jobs over the next three years to support Northern Ontario’s burgeoning film industry.

Along with the new facility, the school will begin offering a new post-production diploma program in 2017.

Once completed, the facility at Canadore will be the first facility of its kind in Northern Ontario and the only certified Dolby Premier Studio in North America.

On average, $1 million of film and television production in Ontario generates 21 full-time direct and associated jobs.

In the North Bay area, the NOHFC has invested more than $42 million in 310 projects helping to create or sustain more than 915 jobs since 2013.
