Ten forest science grants of nearly $1.5 million were awarded by Ontario's Living Legacy Trust to the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa and its Forest Research Partnership. The grants are aimed at improving the health of Northern Ontario forests. The partnership marries forestry experts from both senior levels of government and industry. Its purpose is to pool ideas in sciences and operations, focus on sustainable forestry practices, enhance an ecologically sustainable fibre supply to Tembec mills and promote high standards of forestry practices. The funds will be used to promote further partnerships between the Canadian Forest Service, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tembec for further scientific research such as assessing logging damage impacts in boreal and Great Lakes forests.
