A new North Bay tourism organization has hired its first tourism director.

Tourism North Bay Association has hired Stephen Hollingshead from Sault Ste. Marie to head up the organization, scheduled to officially launch in early 2017.

Hollingshead’s first day on the job is Dec. 5.

He brings more than 17 years of tourism and marketing knowledge in the private and not-for-profit sector to the job in coordinating and managing special events and sport tournaments.

Hollingshead worked in sales and marketing for Northern Ontario’s Algoma Country and was manager of special projects and sports tourism for Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, an arm of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to share my experiences and knowledge with colleagues in North Bay,” said Hollingshead in a news release. “To be able to play a role in the development of North Bay’s tourism landscape is a true honour, one that I will take great pride in."

Hollingshead’s job is described as fostering partnerships with local and regional stakeholders and increasing overall tourism activity in the city.

Tourism North Bay Association is comprised of hotel operators, restaurants, events, attractions and other like-minded partners whose mandate is to increase tourism activity in the City of North Bay.
