The long-serving manager of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce, Glen DeVuono, died Aug. 25 at the age of 81.

DeVuono was born in North Bay and was the Chamber manager for 33 years.

"He was proud of having been part of a small group of Chamber members who began development of our lakefront in 1975, by carving a beach and playground from what was a junkyard and jungle," according to his obituary.

"Glen was a 50-year club curler, a member of a fiercely competitive bridge group, and spent countless hours enjoying the log cabin which he built in Chisholm in 1979."

In his earlier years, Glen was manager of the Sault Star's Wawa Bureau, past president of the Wawa Lions Club, and an honorary member of Branch 429 Royal Canadian Legion.

"Glen was a lifelong friend, was in my wedding party and taught me everything I knew about all things old -- antiques, history, and literature," said close friend and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

"He was a great manager for the Chamber of Commerce and will be sadly missed."

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral or visitation. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at the North Bay Granite Club from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
