Bringing the natural world inside is the concept proposed by the designers of Mattawa's General Hospital project. The firms of Larocque Elder Architects Inc. of North Bay and Ano Architects of Sudbury want the new hospital to reflect the peaceful ambiance of the community in their drawings of the facility scheduled to begin construction in 2003.

The $12-million facility would be located within a wooded area between Side Turcotte Park Road and Mattawan Road. By incorporating the healing aspects of nature, the design of the 16-bed hospital would make use of the forest and sunlight through the windows and the orientation of the building. The facility is slated for a 2004 opening.
