A mining company in North Bay has been fined $5,000 for operating an aggregate pit without a licence. Northern Mining and Exploration Inc. was fined under the Aggregate Resource Act, which provides for the management of the province's sand, gravel, stone and clay resources and the control and regulation of aggregate operations. The company, which pleaded guilty to the charges, operated the unlicenced pit on Crown land in Shaw Township.
