Call centre development may be hindered by lack of job applicants (5/02)

Whether a major international call-centre company plugs into the Tri-Towns area will depend upon the level of interest by potential job applicants from across the region.

Whether a major international call-centre company plugs into the Tri-Towns area will depend upon the level of interest by potential job applicants from across the region. The Tri-Town strategic development unit hopes 1,000 to 1,500 people from across the region, including western Quebec, show interest in applying for positions with the undisclosed company, dubbed as a customer relationship management company. Between 250 and 350 employee positions will be created with the call centre. The call centre will receive incoming calls only for the company's North American clients. The Tri-Towns and an Alberta community have been shortlisted by the company, which intends to establish the centre by August. The estimated payroll is between $10 million and $12 million.
