North Bay's aerospace sector received a financial boost last week from FedNor. The Air Base Property Corp. received $500,000 in FedNor funding towards the completion of major infrastructure improvements on its property and structures adjacent to Jack Garland Airport.
The work includes wall reinforcements for the administration building, a modernization of the property's electrical supply, improvements to sewage and water systems, repairs to aircraft ramps, parking lots and perimeter fencing. A marketing campaign to attract new tenants is planned following the completion of the project.
To date, more than 300 aerospace jobs have been created and more than $10 million invested by the Air Base Property Corp. and its tenants in converting the former airbase facilities into a new and thriving Northern Ontario industry.
