Manitoulin Transport is in acquisition mode again, this time adding Provost Freight Lines to its portfolio of companies.

In operation since 1989, the Provost, AB-based company provides transportation solutions to the oilfield industry throughout Alberta and west central Saskatchewan.

Manitoulin Transport announced the acquisition in an Oct. 19 news release.

“Bringing Provost into the Manitoulin Group of Companies will provide additional infrastructure and capacity,” said Jeff King, Manitoulin Transport’s president, in the release.

“This expansion will further enhance our service offering by providing more direct coverage to our customers and expanding their reach domestically, throughout North America, and around the globe.”

A member of the Manitoulin Group of Companies, Manitoulin Transport offers an array of transportation solutions, including expedited less-than-truckload and truckload, transborder, intermodal, private fleet, guaranteed service, heavy haul, temperature-controlled, dangerous goods and supply chain management.

The company was launched in 1960 by Doug Smith and remains family-owned and operated. Its headquarters are based in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island.
