More local food choices will be available for travelers passing through the terminal at the Thunder Bay Airport.

In keeping with recent renovations to the passenger terminal, the airport authority is overhauling its food service offerings between December and January.

Starting Dec.10, Pinetree Catering, a local catering company will open the “Nomad” café, in the secure departure lounge.

“We are excited to open with a large selection of local food and beverage options for departing passengers,” said Nomad owner Nikos Mantis in a Dec. 5 news release from the airport authority.

“Our mix of products will have something for everyone regardless of the time of day.”

Aramark, which has been the airport’s food service provider for 25 years, plans to “refresh” its offerings with new and local brands.

A press conference is scheduled for the morning of Dec.6 to unveil the local vendors that will be available at the airport starting in mid-January.

“Thunder Bay is gaining a well-deserved positive reputation for its culinary skills”, said airport authority president-CO Ed Schmidtke in a statement. “It is appropriate that a visitor to the airport would be able to shop local.”
