The Chi-Cheemaun ferry will launch its 2018 sailing season starting on Friday, May 4, with an 8:50 a.m. sailing from Tobermory to South Baymouth.

Operated by the Owen Sound Transportation Company (ONTC), the ferry carries passengers and vehicles across Georgian Bay between the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island from May to October.

This year, the ferry will debut renovations to the Aft Lounge, which include a new layout and décor, completed over the winter.

The ferry’s interpretive and cultural presentations will return this year, including programming from Wikwemikong Tourism and Parks Canada, the popular dinner cruise and concert series, and its Sunday collaborative music events.

Also taking place this year are the third annual Craft Brews Cruise and the Stargazer’s Delight Tour, the latter of which will be offered during the peak of the Perseid meteor Shower on Aug. 9-13.

The OSTC will host a free come-and-go open house on the Chi-Cheemaun, from 1-3 p.m., on Tuesday, May 1. Visitors can tour the vessel and see the ferry’s updates at that time.
