Sudbury's‌ ‌Centre‌ ‌for‌ ‌Research‌ ‌in‌ ‌Occupational‌ ‌Safety‌ ‌and‌ ‌Health‌ ‌(CROSH)‌ ‌and‌ ‌its‌ ‌partners‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌awarded‌ ‌$1.08‌ ‌million‌ ‌to‌ ‌develop‌ ‌virtual‌ ‌training‌ ‌for‌ ‌health-care‌ ‌workers‌ ‌in‌ ‌rural‌ ‌and‌ ‌northern‌ ‌communities.‌ ‌

It's‌ ‌the‌ ‌largest‌ ‌amount‌ ‌awarded‌ ‌to‌ ‌a‌ ‌postsecondary‌ ‌institution‌ ‌by‌ ‌eCampusOntario.‌ ‌

An‌ ‌initiative‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌province,‌ ‌eCampusOntario‌ ‌is‌ ‌helping‌ ‌advance‌ ‌virtual‌ ‌teaching‌ ‌and‌ ‌learning‌ ‌in‌ ‌Ontario.‌ ‌

Nicole‌ ‌Lafrenière,‌ ‌a‌ ‌master‌ ‌lecturer‌ ‌in ‌Laurentian‌ ‌University's‌ ‌School‌ ‌of‌ ‌Nursing,‌ ‌will‌ ‌serve‌ ‌as‌ ‌principal‌ ‌investigator‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌project.‌ ‌

Additional‌ ‌partners‌ ‌include‌ ‌Lumeto,‌ ‌Georgian‌ ‌College,‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌Michener‌ ‌Institute‌ ‌of‌ ‌Education‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌University‌ ‌Health‌ ‌Network.‌ ‌

Once‌ ‌complete,‌ ‌learners‌ ‌in‌ ‌remote‌ ‌and‌ ‌northern‌ ‌communities‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌access‌ ‌the‌ ‌training‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌eCampusOntario‌ ‌website.‌ 

The‌ ‌province‌ ‌announced‌ ‌last‌ ‌fall‌ ‌a‌ ‌historic‌ ‌$50-million‌ ‌investment‌ ‌into‌ ‌its‌ ‌Virtual‌ ‌Learning‌ ‌Strategy‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌response‌ ‌to‌ ‌increased‌ ‌demand‌ ‌for remote learning following‌ ‌the‌ ‌onset‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌COVID‌ ‌pandemic.‌ ‌
