A Sudbury professor is being recognized by the national Institute of Power Engineers for his contributions to the field of power engineering.
Greg Rickard, who's taught in the Cambrian College Power Engineering program for 23 years, has received the 2024 Pan Global Training Systems Education Contribution Award of Excellence.
He’s being recognized for excellence in teaching and contributing to the development of teaching materials in Power Engineering.
“Greg has been an outstanding leader and exemplifies academic excellence and commitment in his work with students,” Janice Clarke, Cambrian’s vice-president of academic, said in a news release.
“He brings energy and enthusiasm to Power Engineering and his work has truly made a positive difference in the lives of our students. This is a very well-deserved award.”
Power Engineering involves the creation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electrical power.
Program graduates work in a variety of settings, such as power plants, large industrial facilities, public utilities, and larger public buildings such as hospitals, schools and arenas.
Cambrian offers a three-year Power Engineering Technology program, a two-year Power Engineering Technician program, and a one-year Power Engineering techniques program.
Currently, Cambrian offers Ontario’s only second class Power Engineering program accredited by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
