Women in northeastern Ontario pursuing careers in the skilled trades are once again invited to apply for a scholarship from the Northeastern Ontario Construction Association (NOCA).

Provided by the NOCA’s Women in Construction Committee, the scholarships — worth up to $2,000 — can be used to help with education or career advancement in construction-related trades.

To be eligible, applicants must be a resident of Northern Ontario; must be enrolled in, planning to enrol in, or recently graduated from a construction-focused trades program; and the trade must involve hands-on work, tools, or heavy equipment in the construction industry.

This marks the fourth year the committee has offered the scholarships after it established the initiative in 2022.

It's part of a greater effort to support, educate and mentor women in the construction industry and trades.

The committee also participates in other advocacy efforts through the year, such as Jill of All Trades, a trades-focused career fair geared toward girls in high school; an annual roundtable featuring panellists exploring issues facing women in the trades; and the annual selection of a Women in Construction of the Year recipient, recognized for her contributions to the sector.

Applicants interested in the scholarships have until Oct. 31 to apply.
