Tweens and teens across the North will once again have the opportunity this fall to explore trades work through the province’s Level Up! skilled trades career fairs.

Across the province, more than 35,000 students in Grades 7 to 12 will be introduced to careers in the trades through these one-day events.

Northern Ontario locations and dates include:

  • Sault Ste. Marie – Sept. 24
  • Thunder Bay – Sept. 26
  • Sudbury – Oct. 2
  • South Porcupine – Oct. 4
  • North Bay – Oct. 16

Students interested in attending can sign up through a teacher, school guidance counsellor, or their local school board’s Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) recruiter.

Now in its third year, the Level Up! series of skilled trades career fairs feature interactive exhibitions, hands-on activities, and presentations from tradespeople and local employers showcasing the 144 skilled trades.

It’s part of a greater effort by the province to boost interest among youth in pursuing careers in the skilled trades, which is experiencing a severe shortage.

According to the province, one in three Ontario workers with an apprenticeship or trade certificate was aged 55 or over and nearing retirement in 2021, and oe in five new job openings in Ontario will be in the skilled trades-related occupations by 2028.
