Sudbury’s Laurentian University has recruited a City of Greater Sudbury planner to oversee its campus modernization program.

Jason Ferrigan is the new director of planning and capital projects.

A graduate of Laurentian, Ferrigan spent seven years with the city as a senior planner where he worked on the downtown revitalization effort, brownfield reclamation, and preservation of agricultural land.

Ferrigan was previously with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and was an associate with Urban Strategies, a Toronto-based planning and urban design firm.

The university is undergoing a $50-million building and refurbishment program involving renovations to the Parker Building, the Alphonse Raymond Building, and construction of the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre and the Goodman School of Mines Executive Learning Centre. Thirty-five classrooms and teaching labs are being refurbished. The program will be finished next year.

Meanwhile in downtown Sudbury, Laurentian has a second phase of construction of its School of Architecture is underway with the completion set for the fall.
