Women in Kirkland Lake and Elliot Lake will now be able to access programming that provides training and support to prep them for the job market.
On March 27, the province announced $6.9 million for 10 organizations to expand the Investing in Women’s Futures program. Among them are Keepers of the Circle in Kirkland Lake and the Counselling Centre of East Algoma in Elliot Lake.
They join existing partners offering the program in the North, including Northwestern Ontario Women's Centre, PARO: Centre for Women's Enterprise, Sudbury Women's Centre, Women's Place Kenora.
Thirty-three locations offer the program across Ontario.
Aimed at women who experience social and economic barriers, including those experiencing gender-based violence and social isolation, the program provides resources and training so they can overcome barriers, increase their well-being, build skills, and gain employment.
“These 10 new Investing in Women’s Futures program locations will support more women to become economically empowered and live safely with a greater sense of well-being,” said Charmaine Williams, the associate minister of Women's Social and Economic Opportunity, in a news release.
“Investing in Women’s Futures empowers them to achieve the success they deserve through good-paying jobs or further education, and it contributes to a strong Ontario economy.”
The province said that, in 2021-2022, Investing in Women’s Futures helped more than 1,300 women across the province secure employment, start their own businesses, or pursue further training and/or education.
