A donation to Sudbury’s Cambrian College will help train the next generation of heavy equipment and motive power technicians working on electric vehicles (EVs).
Parker Hannifin, a global provider of motion and control technologies, has provided the school with a range of equipment, including hydraulic hardware, controllers, electrification components, and associated software licenses and training for faculty.
Cambrian said the donation would help the school provide “cutting-edge education in electric vehicle maintenance and training” in its heavy equipment technician and motive power technician (truck and coach) programs.
“We are pleased to partner with Cambrian College through our donation of state-of-the art mobile electrification equipment,” Mark Scholz, Parker Hannifin’s national sales manager, said in an April 25 news release.
“This underscores Parker Hannifin’s commitment to supporting education and innovation in mobile electrification on the next generation of mining equipment.”
The company also provided a financial contribution, the amount of which was not disclosed by the school, toward the construction of Cambrian’s electric vehicle lab, located at its Centre for Smart Mining in the Glencore Centre for Innovation.
“We are so grateful for Parker Hannifin’s generous contribution, which significantly bolsters our
academic offerings and underscores our commitment to preparing students for the jobs of the future,” Janice Clarke, Cambrian’s vice-president of academic, said in the release.
“This partnership will have a profound impact on our college community, empowering both our students and industry partners with invaluable training and research resources.”
In recognition of the donation, the school said it has renamed an industrial training lab to the Parker Heavy Equipment and Truck and Coach Lab.
Headquartered in Cleveland, OH, Parker Hannifin designs and manufactures a range of components for motion and control technologies. The company serves industries including aerospace, health care, industrial manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation, and transportation.
