Goldcorp’s Musselwhite Mine donated a retired scoop tram to Confederation College in Thunder Bay as a training tool for heavy-duty equipment mechanical students.

Goldcorp’s Musselwhite Mine donated a retired scoop tram to Confederation College in Thunder Bay as a training tool for heavy-duty equipment mechanical students.
The Toromont underground loader, valued at $60,000, is the first piece of mining equipment on campus.

“The heavy equipment industry now focuses primarily on mining and underground equipment,” said Spencer Posthumus, an advanced heavy duty equipment apprentice and an employee with Toromont.  “The new scoop tram is very relatable to the work we are all doing and will give us more of the skills we need to successfully progress in our careers.  It also will provide the post-secondary students in the program with a clear picture of what to expect.”

“Donations such as this one support our students in developing the skills they will need to be safe and effective employees in the workplace,” said college president Jim Madder.
