Ransomware and various threats to digital infrastructure are fast becoming part of everyday life.

Sudbury's Cambrian College is offering a new program in cybersecurity to full and part-time learners in early 2022.

The two-semester Cybersecurity Graduate Certificate program, which kicks off next January, will teach students how to protect computers, applications and networks from unauthorized and malicious users or software.

The program covers infrastructure configuration, information systems security, risk management and policy, and ethics and law. Students will learn both the planning and operational side of identifying, analyzing and proposing solutions for computer security risks.

Graduates of this program will be ready to work as part of an IT support or security team to manage security risks and safeguard information in public or private sectors.

“The COVID-19 global pandemic has made it very clear how much we all rely on computers and digital technology, in our schools, workplaces, communities and homes,” said Paula Gouveia, the college's academic vice-president in a news release.“Now more than ever, the world needs highly skilled experts in cybersecurity.”

“At Cambrian, we’re constantly working with industry to identify the skills that are needed now and in the future, and this new program reflects that,” said Jill Ferguson, chair of the School of Information Technology, in a statement.

“Graduates of our Cybersecurity program will be using their skills to detect and eliminate threats in the exciting field of digital security.”
