Business leaders concerned about client confidentiality and secure Internet transactions may want to consider a Thunder Bay technology business aimed at helping keep a lid on Web interference.

PragMagic Group is a high-tech company specializing in secure Web-based systems. The business has been in operation for the past eight years and recently upgraded its software system.

“We build secure systems as opposed to security systems,” says Dr. J. Michael Robinson, senior technical partner with PragMagic.

Robinson is a former University of Waterloo and Lakehead University professor who launched the business with Helen Huk.

To Robinson, a security system is an attachment that attempts to make a computer secure. It does not add anything to the computer’s capabilities.

The difference between some of the more popular security systems on the market and PragMagic’s Full Metal Jacket or ACURUS Mail is that his systems

are not an add-on. The programs run on a separate hardware and software platform and are integrated into the client’s network.

Full Metal Jacket provides a firewall to the Web, while ACURUS Mail secures an e-mail management system. Access to the log information is protected by PragMagic employees.
