Reputation is a powerful thing in the mining industry and Canada's reputation has been tarnished in the past, making it difficult for other companies like HLS Hard-Line Solutions in Dowling.

HLS is a company that deals in the development and service industrial robotic control systems and communications infrastructure for mining companies around the world. HLS general manager and owner, Walter Siggelkow says they are among those companies doing their best to improve Canada's
reputation on the world mining stage, but it is sometimes an uphill battle.

Exports will account for about 40 per cent of their sales by the end of their fiscal year in July.

Presence at trade shows, particularily some of the more prominent ones, is important, he says. He encourages mining supply and service companies to enroll in organizations like the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) which frequently attends international mining shows and will include information about a company, even if they aren't able to attend.
