O.N. Telcom has adopted a new name and a growth strategy to expand its base across Northern Ontario.

Under the new banner of Ontera, the Crown corporation telecommunications subsidiary unveiled its new corporate image and plans for expansion, promising $12 million over the next three years and future telecommunications jobs for young people in northeastern Ontario.

Ontera, a subsidiary of the North Bay-based Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC), provides high-speed internet, cellular and mobile data, long distance and advanced network services in northeastern Ontario.

Walter Van Norden, Ontera's new director of marketing, says the organization has made fundamental operating changes since O.N. Telcom and Telus formed a partnership last spring. Investment over the next three years will be on network upgrades and expansion of their customer service facilities.
