Garry Clark, the former executive director of the Ontario Prospectors Association (OPA), was awarded the King’s Coronation Medal in Thunder Bay, April 24.
The medal is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to community and country. In Clark’s case, he was recognized for his contributions to Ontario’s mineral sector for more than 25 years.
A graduate of Lakehead University’s geology program, Clark is the owner of Clark Exploration, a mineral exploration and geologic consulting firm to clients worldwide.
Over the years, he has served on various committees and boards in providing feedback to government on matters of policy, legislative and regulatory changes.
Clark resigned as executive director of the OPA, a job he held since 2001, but remains with the organization as a board director.
In a recent letter to George Pirie, Ontario’s northern economic and growth minister, Clark thanked Pirie and the nominating committee for receiving “such a prestigious award.”
“I believe I have benefited in my many years from the assistance and knowledge of great ministry staff, vocal and experienced prospectors and explorers of Ontario.
The goal I have always set for myself is to provide open dialogue with all parties interested in the exploration of Ontario. This goal has always been grounded knowing Ontario has the best geology and untapped mineral potential.”
