Peter van Alphen is joining Premier Gold Mines as its chief operating officer.

In a Sept. 16 news release, the Thunder Bay gold miner announced it wanted an experienced hand to oversee its mine operations in Nevada and Mexico, and its two up-and-coming projects in the pipeline in northwestern Ontario and Nevada.

Van Alphen brings more than 20 years of experience developing mines and running operations.

He'll supervise Premier's Mercedes (Mexico) and South Arturo (Nevada) mines and will lead the development planning for its Greenstone Gold mine project near Geraldton and its Cove Project in Nevada.

Van Alphen's career track includes stops as a mine and project manager with FNX Mining in Sudbury, as vice-president of Canadian operations with Lake Shore Gold in Timmins, vice-president of operations with Tahoe Resources and Pan American Silver's country manager for Canada.

“A top priority for Premier is to build an industry-best operations team to facilitate our aggressive plans to realize substantial production growth over the next several years,” said Premier president-CEO Ewan Downie in a statement.

"We look forward to Peter’s contribution as we grow our company in a safe and sustainable manner. Peter’s diverse experience will complement our existing team as we advance our key assets and assess additional producing opportunities to achieve this goal.”
