Last year was a rough one for many junior miners but Premier Gold is crowing about its exploration successes.

In a year-end news release, the Thunder Bay junior miner called 2013 an “exceptional year for drilling success” with new discoveries at its gold properties at Geraldton, Red Lake and in Nevada.

At Geraldton, more than 130,000 metres of drilling was completed last year at its Hardrock deposit in building an open pit resource of more than 2.3 million ounces indicated and 859,000 ounces inferred. Preliminary economic assessments for the Hardrock deposit and the Brookbank deposit will be released early this year, and a new gold target is being drilled off west of Hardrock.

At Red Lake, Premier said underground drilling revealed a new gold structure that’s part of a down-dip extension of the former Wilmar Gold Mine. The drilling is being done from an underground tramway that Goldcorp is building to connect its mill complex with its new Cochenour and Bruce Channel Mine that’s being brought into production.

Premier is a joint venture partner with Goldcorp known as the Rahill-Bonanza.

At its Cove Gold project in Nevada, the company expects to release an updated mineral resource estimate for its high-grade Helen Zone deposit and made new discoveries near a past-producing open pit.
