Penguin Automated Systems of Naughton, located outside Sudbury, has received a Mining Magazine Award for its design of a bulk-handling system for Coldelco’s Radomiro Tomic copper mine in Chile.

The telecommand system allows the mine’s stacker to be controlled from off-site. The stacker has cameras along its 485-metre length, and the operator can run it from a command centre, safely away from any acid fumes. The system will be run using an optical link.

The annual awards recognize innovative companies, products and projects in the mining industry and winners are chosen by the magazine’s readers.
