The Ministry of Labour has opened up registration for the public consultations it will host as part of its year-long review of mining health and safety.

The public consultations in Sudbury are planned for Wednesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 3, 2014. The Ministry of Labour has not yet announced a time or location for both consultations.

Public consultations are also planned for Timmins on March 31; in Kirkland Lake on April 1; in Red Lake on April 30; in Marathon on May 1; and in London, on May 13.

People who wish to participate in in the consultations, or simply attend them, must register at least a week in advance by calling 416-326-6388, or emailingMOLMiningReview@ontario.ca.

Industry stakeholders, and members of the public – including mining industry workers and their family members – will be invited to share their views and experiences regarding mining safety.

The ministry has asked for input on a variety of topics, including: the role of health and safety system partners; the internal responsibility system; technology and the management of change; training, skills and labour issues; health and safety hazards in the mining sector; and emergency preparedness and mine rescue.
