All things mining are taking over Timmins this week.
Mayor Michelle Boileau proclaimed June 5-11 as Mining Week in the City of Timmins. It coincides with the Canadian Mining Expo (CME) setting up at the McIntyre Community Building on June 7 and 8.
The annual event features a career fair, equipment demonstrations, forums, networking opportunities, a jackleg drilling competition, and more.
“It’s grown. It started with half an arena, if we’re lucky, and then it’s grown to what we have today,” said CME's Glenn Dredhart at the proclamation.
For Dredhart, it's fitting to hold the massive event at the door of the iconic McIntyre mine headframe.
“We’ve proven that Timmins is the place to host the Canadian Mining Expo," he said.
The city is honoured to host the event every year and is looking forward to welcoming hundreds of exhibitors and guests from around the world, said Boileau.
"“As someone who’s been an exhibitor on the trade floor during the Canadian Mining Expo for years. I’ve suffered the swollen feet by the end of a few days and the dry voice and sometimes some headaches," she said.
