Maureen Jensen, chair and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), has been recognized as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women.

Sudbury-raised Jensen is one of 100 women from across the country to be recognized by KPMG and the Women’s Executive Network (WXN), a member-based organization that advocates for the advancement, development and recognition of professional women in Canada.

“Maureen is a remarkable leader and one of the most respected regulators in this country. We are delighted that the WXN has recognized her with this prestigious award,” said AnneMarie Ryan, lead director at the OSC, in a Nov. 22 news release.

“In a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Maureen has forged a path for greater diversity and has defined what it means to be a role model for women in business today.”

Originally trained as a professional geologist, Jensen has held a variety of roles in the mining industry over the last three decades.

Prior to joining the OSC, Jensen held senior leadership positions at the Toronto Stock Exchange, Market Regulation Services Inc., and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada. A registered professional geoscientist, Ms. Jensen began her career in the mining industry where she was involved with several junior mining companies.

Jensen was named executive director and CEO of the OSC in 2011, and took on the role of chair in 2016.

She is a strong supporter of gender diversity in the workplace and was a driving force behind the introduction of disclosure rules aimed at increasing the representation of women on corporate boards and in executive positions.
