SGX Resources has signed an exploration agreement with the Mattagami First Nation.

In a Feb. 26 press release, the Winnipeg-based miner said the agreement recognizes the “rights, obligations, and responsibilities held by each party” related to the company's exploration work in northeastern Ontario.

"SGX is proud of the relationship that has developed with Mattagami,” company president and CEO Dale Ginn in a statemen. He called the agreement a “foundation” to continue exploration while respecting the community's traditional values and providing them with “economic opportunities as they arise.”

"SGX approached Mattagami First Nation in a proactive and respectful manner regarding exploration in our traditional territory,” said Mattagami Chief Walter Naveau. “I look forward to a long, mutually beneficial relationship with SGX."

The agreement covers all the company's present and future mineral dispositions and claims.

SGX Resources discovered a near-surface gold deposit located 60 kilometres south of Timmins, near Gogama. Its Edleston deposit is between the Cote Lake gold deposit to the west and the Young-Davidson gold mine to the east. The company has other Timmins area properties where it is performing exploration and infill drilling.
