A contribution of $27,000 from the Ministry of Indian Affairs and Northern Development will help northeastern Ontario Wahnapitae First Nation gain optimum advantage out of mining opportunities.

The investment will go toward developing a mineral industry strategy that will target potential partnerships for mineral exploration.

The mineral industry strategy will also look at how joint working agreements with mining companies can be nurtured.

For years, mining companies in the vicinity have explored minerals such as nickel, copper, platinum and gold within a 50-kilometre radius of the 326-member First Nation community.

Wahnapitae First Nation is located on the north shore of Wahnapitae Lake, approximately 30 kilometres northwest of Sudbury.
