Cementation has been recognized as one of Canada’s Safest Employers in 2017.

The North Bay-headquartered company received the gold award in the Mining and Mineral Resources category during the 2017 Canada’s Safest Employers gala in Toronto on Oct. 24. The awards program is a joint initiative of Canadian Occupational Safety and Thomson Reuters.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as one of Canada’s Safest Employers,” Cementation president Roy Slack said in a news release.

“Our company, management and our supervisors all care about the well-being of our employees and one of the ways we demonstrate that care is through our commitment to safety.”

The Canada’s Safest Employers Awards were launched in 2011 and acknowledge companies from across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their employees.

Companies are evaluated on a broad range of initiatives including employee training, OHS management systems, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives.

“This recognition is a true reflection of the sincere commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy workplace by Cementation and all our employees,” said Steve Wrixon, general manager of health and safety at Cementation, in the release.

“We continue to work hard at improving our safety culture and structure as we never want to settle for the status quo.”

The Cementation group of companies delivers underground mine development and infrastructure as well as surface material handling and processing facilities solutions for mining projects worldwide.
