The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for 2025.

Each year, the organization selects individuals for recognition who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and achievements in the Canadian mining industry.

“The Canadian mining industry is at the forefront of the global energy transition, poised to deliver the supply of essential minerals and metals for the future. This transformative moment capitalizes on our industry’s rich legacy of achievements,” Janice Zinck, chair of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, said in a March 26 news release.

“With pride, the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame commemorates the visionary leadership that has molded our mining sector into the formidable force it represents today.”

Any organization or member of the public can nominate a candidate, but nominations must be submitted through a member organization or associate member organization of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

These include:

  • the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum;
  • Mining Association of Canada;
  • the Northern Miner;
  • the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada;
  • the Mining Associations of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan; and
  • the Association for Mineral Exploration.

Nominators have until May 1 to approach a member or associate member organization regarding a nomination for induction. Nomination materials must be submitted for review by May 31.

Detailed submission criteria and the nomination form are available here.

More than 200 people have been inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame since it began in 1989.

That includes a number of Northern Ontario representatives, including Sudbury-raised Maureen Jensen (2022) and Laurentian University geology professor Dr. James M. Franklin (2020).

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame was founded in 1988 by the Northern Miner, the Mining Association of Canada, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.
