AuRico Gold reports that its Young-Davidson underground gold mine in Matachewan achieved commercial production on Oct. 31 following the successful commissioning of the shaft and hoisting infrastructure.
"Commissioning the shaft marks the successful completion of a three year construction project that will position theYoung-Davidson mine for long term success," said chief operating officer Peter MacPhail in a statement.
"I want to thank our Young-Davidson team and our contractors for their diligent efforts over the past three years and for completing this project safely and on schedule."
The Young-Davidson mine in northeastern Ontario is considered one of the core operations of the Toronto miner.
