Ontario is investing nearly $843,000 in two enterprises to boost manufacturing in Muskoka.

Of the funding, which comes from the Regional Development Program, $480,000 will go to Icarus Aero, which manufactures specialized solutions for rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, while $362,897 will go to Embertech Industrial, which specializes in manufacturing components for hydroelectric turbines and dams.

At Icarus, the company is investing $3.2 million to expand their Gravenhurst facility by 9,000 square feet and purchase new equipment, including CNC technology, machines and routers, plasma cutters, and 3D aircraft scanning technology.

The upgrades will enable the company to increase productivity and expand into new global markets that require niche product design and manufacturing. Eight new jobs will be created.

Embertech is investing nearly $2.7 million to upgrade their Bracebridge facilities, including the installation of three-phase power, which will help to increase productivity and production capacity.

The company will also move forward with the commercialization of a new hydroelectric microturbine for use in private or commercial settings where a river or stream is available that can be harnessed for clean, renewable energy. Ten new jobs will be created.

The Regional Development Program provides funding to small and medium-sized enterprises in eastern and southwestern Ontario that are investing in new equipment and training to expand operations.
