Province announces $1.9M for small businesses, film projects in North Bay

Funds come from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp.

Four small businesses in the North Bay area will share in $500,000 in funding from the province to help expand operations.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced the funds on Dec. 13 in North Bay.

Funding allotments and their recipients include: 

  • $213,618 to Canelec Manufacturing & Development Inc. of North Bay, to build a new warehouse and purchase specialized equipment to meet the need for mining electrical equipment;
  • $196,058 to Castle Glass & Mirror of North Bay, to expand its glass manufacturing operations;
  • $146,065 to Resolution Machining of North Bay, to purchase specialized machinery for custom machining, fabrication and welding; and
  • $8,475 to Wand Family Farm of Powassan, to purchase equipment and expand its cattle and lamb farming operations.

Together, the investments are expected to create 17 full-time jobs.

"These investments support economic diversity and growth in the region," Fedeli said in a news release.

"We are building strong, vibrant communities and real opportunities across the North for the people who live here and companies that want to invest, sending a strong signal to the world that Northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs."

The province also announced $1.4 million for film productions in the area.
