The week of Sept. 8-14 marks International Adult Learners' Week, intended to promote active participation in lifelong learning to improve personal development and foster an enhanced quality of life.

The Mid North Network for the Co-ordination and Development of Adult Learning, a non-profit organization that assists with literacy referrals, develops community literacy service plans and provides professional development for adult literacy instructors and tutors, offers up some ideas for employers who wish celebrate International Adult Learners' Week. Employers can give employees information about learning opportunities, make sure employees have access to opportunities to improve their skills or sponsor a literacy program in their community. They can also donate equipment, in-kind services such as free printing or legal advice or consider volunteering and encourage employees to do the same.
