A junior gold producer is hiring a company doctor as an incentive to attract and retain highly skilled employees for its Kirkland Lake gold mine.

As part of their benefits package, Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. will be offering access to a family physician who will spend a fraction of his time serving as company doctor, but also serving to help employees' families.

The doctor will work out of the Kirkland Lake hospital. Brian Hinchcliffe, company president, says not having access to a family physician was the "single biggest issue" most employees indicated they face.

Hinchcliffe says an arrangement was worked out between the company, the hospital and other community constituents to make an "attractive proposal" to a candidate whereby Kirkland Lake Gold will be paying part of the physician's salary.

The company, formerly known as Foxpoint Resources Ltd., has hired 200 people and plans on hiring 60 more miners as the junior mining company puts back into production three shafts and a ramp on their properties in the gold camp.

Hinchcliffe says the company is advertising for workers in the Miner I and II classifications and is also searching for qualified candidates for an apprenticeship program they are developing to train young people to be miners.

Kirkland Lake Gold has been a major player in the resurrection of the region's mining camp.
