Timmins Mayor Jamie Lim, chairperson of Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), huddled in Saint John, N.B. with Canadian mayors in early March to map out strategy for a letter-writing campaign to American mayors, in an effort to lobby against the softwood lumber tariffs. The FCM has enlisted support from the American Consumers for Affordable Homes and the National Association of Home Builders, as well as Home Depot, to fight on Canada's behalf in an effort to influence the tariff decision. In FCM's letter being drafted, they argue tariffs will hurt the economy of both countries, adding $1,500 to the cost of a new home in the U.S.
