Four Northerners to receive province's highest honour

Four notable Northern Ontario residents are among the 29 appointees to the Order of Ontario Jan. 28 at Queen's Park. In Sudbury, those recognized are Gerry Lougheed Jr.

Four notable Northern Ontario residents are among the 29 appointees to the Order of Ontario Jan. 28 at Queen's Park.

In Sudbury, those recognized are Gerry Lougheed Jr., a funeral director and a leader in volunteerism who has championed many causes from cancer care to hospital development and Peter Crossgrove, a businessman and director of natural resource companies who has helped raise millions for Ontario's healthcare organizations.

Fraser Dougall of Thunder Bay, a media owner and philanthropist who promotes and supports community interests and local projects through his radio and TV programming is also receiving the order.

Jean Gagnon of Sturgeon Falls was also named. He is an advocate for the health and safety of workers and victims of industrial disease and their survivors, to receive compensation.

Other notable recipients to be named are diabetes researcher Mladen Vranic, humanitarian James Orbinsky and news anchor Ken Shaw.
