Economic development departments in Manitouwadge and Kapuskasing both received funding from a provincial program to attract outside investment to their communities.

Kapuskasing is using their $30,000 to develop an inventory of all industrial and commercial properties in town. Their "gaps and needs analysis" will assess the municipality's needs for a hydroelectric project on the Lower Mattagami River.

The money is coming from the province's Northern Communities Investment Readiness program. The Manitouwadge Economic Development Corporation received $25,125 to prepare a community profile to post to the province 2ontario.com website. The money is also earmarked toward training local stakeholders to work with potential investors, and support to support a visit by three potential investors.

To date, the province has spent more than $1.4 million through this program for 145 such community projects across the North.
