Lakehead University's forest management study programs were awarded $1.3 million from the province's Living Legacy Trust.

The faculty of forest and forest environment, as well as the Akervall Centre for Outdoor Recreation, will study the long-term economic, environmental and sociological impacts for forest management that will likely spin off into other areas of research.

The project will operate from the new Legacy Forest research site, a 400,000-hectare area in Matawin forest near Quetico Provincial Park, now under licence to Bowater Forest Products, a partner in the project.
