Resolute's patented technology transforms wood-based chemicals, such as lignin and cellulosic sugars, into innovative commercial products like adhesives, animal feed and composites. The technology was developed by FP Innovations.

The goal is to develop new ways to efficiently manufacture wood-based biochemical products and come up with ways to develop sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based products. It essentially opens up a new value-added market for forest products within the biochemical products supply chain.

The $23-million plant, which sits on the site of Resolute's pulp mill in Thunder Bay, was commissioned in 2019. It has the capacity to treat 100 tonnes of biomass each year.
