Tembec Inc. is urging the Canadian government to take a tough stand against the U.S. in answering to their punitive softwood lumber tariffs. The company is circulating a petition through chambers of commerce to gather grassroots support from the business community. Written by Tembec CEO Frank Dottori, the petition asks Prime Minister Jean Chretien to take a stronger stance against U.S. protectionist policies. Canadian lumber producers are paying close to 30 per cent on lumber exports across the border.
