Those who provide mandatory refresher courses for Ontario’s 750 firefighters will be busy with the strike by provincial government employees drawing to an end.
Less than 10 per cent of the firefighters have crossed picket lines for their annual training that is required under law. Refresher courses are normally underway in advance of the forest fire season that begins April. Ministry of Natural Resources officials say only a few small fires are burning in Northern Ontario, but warn the situation could change quickly with warm dry weather.
