Hornepayne to see construction of new Studio 6 Stay Suites

Northeastern Ontario town secures long-needed 46-room hotel with construction primed to start in the spring

The Municipality of Hornepayne in partnership with Rideout Bay Developments, (RBD) provided an update on Sept. 20 regarding the construction of a new Studio 6 Stay Suites hotel.

Winnipeg-based RBD is pleased to announce that construction starts next spring with a Christmas 2023 opening date. 

The hotel will be on Becker Road next to the R.W. Anderson Recreation Park and Hornepayne’s Three Bears Monument.

A news release indicated the design and approval phase of the property for the 46-room hotel has taken place in the past few months. The development will include an outdoor BBQ terrace and two executive/honeymoon suites. 

“We raised our overall room count from 44 to 46 on the same footprint by obtaining some efficiencies of interior space utilization," the developer said in a news release. "Added important elements will definitely please snowmobilers who they anticipate will begin visiting the municipality and in turn will add to Hornepayne’s tourism industry.

"We also added to the design several elements to make our hotel more amenable to snowmobilers adding reinforced storage racks in the rooms, cleaning materials for snowmobiles and are planning special storage and security measures for the many snowmobilers that will once again visit Hornepayne,” said the developer.

Ben Cohen, CEO of Rideout Bay Developments stated that they began the tender and construction phase with their general contractor and partner, Jemlor Hospitalite Inc. of Montreal.

“Over the past few weeks Jemlor’s construction managers have been have been in Hornepayne and its neighbouring communities, securing locally as many of the sub-trades as are available to fill roles within the hotel,” said Cohen. He also acknowledged receiving a very supportive note from Hornepayne Mayor Cheryl Fort.

“As we work through the exciting process of construction and establishment a new Studio 6 Hotel in our community," said Fort, "it will be a test of our patience as we all know what a tremendous success it will be. The municipality hopes that the construction goes smoothly, and we are looking forward to seeing the building get started and carried on to completion! The anticipation is growing and our community welcomes the new Studio 6 Hotel.
