The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) has announced May 18 as the date for its 2021 virtual conference.

Themed ‘GoNorth,’ the day-long event will present an opportunity for northeastern Ontario leaders and delegates to come together to discuss interests common to municipalities throughout the region.

Included on the agenda are a presentation of the board’s annual report and finances, engagement by senior levels of government, and a presentation on broadband and how the region is contributing to the green economy.

The organization earlier announced that, given the financial pressure communities are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, registration for the event will be free.

A link to attend the FONOM conference will be sent out in early May. Following the event, the entire contents will be uploaded to the FONOM YouTube channel for viewing.

An annual event typically attended by 200 delegates, the FONOM conference was cancelled in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic.

FONOM is an advocacy group representing 110 cities, towns and municipalities across northeastern Ontario, with the aim of improving the economic and social quality of life for its members.
