Trucor Steel Structures, which is based on the Batchewana First Nation, has received $442,000 from FedNor toward expansion of the business.

Federal funding is helping a Sault-area construction company to expand the business and hire more people.

On Dec. 18, FedNor announced it’s providing $442,000 to Trucor Steel Structures Inc., an Indigenous-owned company based in Batchewana First Nation, Rankin Reserve, that has a satellite facility in Elliot Lake.

The funds will go toward an excavator, front-end loader, skid steer, and a mini-excavator, which will enable Trucor to dig foundations for building projects and to participate in other construction opportunities, the province said.

Trucor’s expansion is expected to result in the creation of 10 full-time jobs.

“This support from FedNor is going to help us expand our services, which will help Trucor Steel grow, but it is also going to help us meet the needs of Indigenous communities and Northern Ontario,” said Kenneth Daigle, Trucor’s president and CEO.

“We are proud to partner with the Government of Canada in creating opportunities in the region, and we will keep working at building up our communities.”

The company specializes in manufacturing housing and commercial and industrial building solutions for First Nations communities, including permanent structures and temporary/emergency structures that can be customized for specific locations and needs.

Funding provided to Trucor comes from FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP).
