The province’s Energy for Generations plan is a “long overdue” roadmap to power growth in Northern Ontario.
The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) is giving a thumbs up to the Ford’s government long-term energy strategy that should position regions like Northern Ontario for long-term prosperity and fuels economic growth for communities.
The group expects it will result in better power infrastructure that supports jobs, attracts industry and stimulates investment in the region.
In a news release, NOMA president and Marathon mayor Rick Dumas commended the province for putting together an integrated plan emphasizing affordability, reliability, energy security and clean energy development; everything that fits the bill for northwestern Ontario’s economic needs.
“This plan is a generational investment in Ontario’s future, and for Northwestern Ontario, it couldn’t come at a more important time,” said Dumas. “As we prepare for major growth in mining, critical minerals, and resource development, this strategy helps ensure that our region has access to clean, affordable, and reliable power—power that not only supports industry but also empowers our municipalities and residents.
“Our economy is on the cusp of transformative development, and secure access to all forms of energy – from natural gas to nuclear – will be key to building resilient communities in the North.”
